If you’re looking to take in some of the colors of the season but aren’t sure where the best places are, we got you covered.  Here are a few of our favorites in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana to admire the cooler weather and changing of the leaves.

Texas

Fall is our favorite time of year in Texas, not only because of the Texas State Fair, but because the autumn colors illuminate parks and natural areas across the state as fireworks do a night sky.

  • Garner State Park
  • Lost Maples State Natural Area
  • Daingerfield State Park
  • Dinosaur Valley State Park
  • Lake Bob Sandlin State Park
  • McKinney Falls State Park
  • Tyler State Park

Oklahoma

Oklahoma offers prime foliage well into November. As the temperatures turn cool, fall is the ideal time to venture out into the great outdoors on autumn adventures through the Sooner State.

  • Talimena National Scenic Byway(Arkansas as well)
  • Chickasaw National Recreation Area
  • Roman Nose State Park
  • Osage Hills State Park
  • The Kiamichi Trace

Arkansas

Arkansas has some of the best fall foliage because much of the state is covered in natural forests. Driving anywhere in Arkansas, during the fall, brings nearly endless views of richly-colored trees as far as the eye can see.

  • Arkansas Scenic Byway 7
  • Petit Jean and Mount Magazine
  • Boston Mountains Scenic Loop
  • Blanchard Springs
  • The Great River Road and the St. Francis Scenic Byway
  • The Arkansas and Missouri Railroad

Louisiana

Sometimes it feels like Louisiana will never get to experience an actual fall day, but, as long as they can whip up some gumbo or jambalaya on a Louisiana Saturday Night all is good to “pass a good time.”

  • Chemin-A-Haut State Park
  • Jimmie Davis State Park
  • Lake Claiborne State Park
  • Lake Bistineau State Park
  • North and South Toledo Bend State Parks
  • Kisatchie National Forest
